Skinceuticals Silymarin CF Serum Review

Feelunique (UK)

I'm already a huge fan of Skinceuticals products so I was really excited when I saw Silymarin CF advertised, as it sounded right up my street! Skinceuticals are renowned for their antioxidant range and Silymarin CF is the latest addition to that. It's specifically designed for those with oily, blemish-prone skin - just like mine!

It contains -

  • 15% L-ascorbic acid which is a potent form of antioxidant Vitamin C,
  • 0.5% Ferulic Acid, also an antioxidant,
  • 0.5% Salicylic Acid (BHA) - this gently exfoliates skin as well as keeping pores clear,
  • 0.5% Silymarin which is an antioxidant derived from concentrated milk thistle plant. As well as giving protection from free radicals, it helps regulate oil production. This in turn can help stop pores getting clogged, causing spots.
Sounds amazing, right? Now on to how it performs. Consistency wise, it's a thin, watery serum that almost feels slightly oily in the way that it spreads. It's not greasy in the slightest though. It does have they typical "hot dog water" scent that a lot of Vitamin C serums have. The scent doesn't bother me but I know other's aren't keen on it. It's not strong though and it instantly dissipates when applied. I've been using the serum solely in my AM routine. It's played well with the other products in my routine. There's not been any pilling or rolling issues.

I've been using this serum for over a month now and have been shocked with the results. I've definitely seen a big reduction in my oiliness. Normally my forehead is an oil slick by midday but it's been so much better since using this. I've also been having less and less breakouts too and the one's that I've had have been tiny. Obviously the other products that I'm using in my routine will be contributing too but I've been really impressed with the improvement in my skin since using this serum. For someone who has struggled with acne for years, it's been brilliant to see my skin clearer than it has been for a long time.

I previously always used Phloretin CF from Skinceuticals and loved that but Silymarin CF definitely works better for me. I think I've found a new favourite Vitamin C serum! Strong praise indeed. The only downside for me is the price. Yes it's expensive but it's worth every penny in my opinion. I'll certainly spend my own money on it. I'm about halfway through this bottle and have been using it daily (about 5-6 drops). I highly recommend it, if you've got acne prone skin like mine.

Skinceuticals Silymarin CF serum is available from Skinceuticals & Skin City for £145, Face The Future for £139.99, Look Fantastic & Feel Unique for £145 (limited edition set including an SPF for the same price!).
