Murad are often at the forefront when it comes to skincare formulas and their latest Vita-C Glycolic Brightening serum is no exception! This dual serum combines Vitamin C and Glycolic Acid which work together to brighten skin tone. The serums are actually kept in separate sections and only mix together when pumped out. The Glycolic acid exfoliates skin, getting rid of any dead skin cells. This in turn prepares the skin for the Vitamin C, ensuring that it penetrates more effectively. The Vitamin C is gold stabilised Absorbic Acid which means it doesn't oxidize as quickly, keeping it's potency for longer. Sounds amazing, right?

So on to how the serum performs. The dual serums mix perfectly when pumped out, you can't tell it's actually two serums. It's a fairly thick serum, that's a light golden colour with a slight shimmer / luminosity. The first time I used this serum, my heart sank when I felt how siliconey it is. I'm not against silicone in skincare, quite the opposite, as I know it can be very beneficial. However I'm not usually a fan of silicone heavy serums, especially those I use in my AM routine, because they can often cause product pilling / balling / rolling when adding the rest of my skincare and makeup. This mostly happens when two products containing silicone are applied in the same routine which is easily done, especially when wearing makeup! Luckily for me though, this serum didn't cause any pilling at all, regardless of what I used with it. When applying the serum, it feels like it puts a velvety, protective layer over my face. When adding other products on top, it felt like they just mixed and melted in to that layer. I've not come across anything else like it! Very unusual but in a good way. For me, this shows what a great formula this serum is.

When applying the serum, I found I got a very minor acid tingle. Murad haven't disclosed the percentage of Glycolic Acid in this but as they suggest that this is to be used both AM and PM, I suspect it's not a high percentage. I used this solely in my AM routine though as I like to get the full antioxidant benefits from it. Now here's where I came across an issue. As I suffer from acne, I need to use a BHA acid daily to help keep my pores clear. The majority of my products that contain BHA also contains AHA acids, like Glycolic, too. I found that it was too much for my skin using this serum in the AM and a further acid in the evening. I began to get sensitivity so was faced with a tough decision - either stop using this serum or my PM acid serum. I tried using them on alternative days but this didn't do my acne any good. So unfortunately I had to stop using this regularly. I've found I can use it every few days without an issue, so I've been doing that.

Aside from that issue, which is purely just because of my skin needs, I absolutely love this serum! It's fantastic to brighten and even my skin tone. It doesn't have that hotdog water scent that some Vitamin C serums have either, which is always a bonus! All in all, I've been really impressed with this serum and would certainly recommend it.
