As soon as I saw this moisturiser advertised, I knew I had to try it! Everything about it sounded right up my street. So I was really pleased when Murad sent me it to try.

Murad's Clarifying Oil-Free Water Gel is suitable for all skin types but is particularly beneficial for acne-prone skin like mine. It's a lightweight gel that's designed to be intensely hydrating without blocking pores. It contains salicylic acid aka BHA which is an exfoliating acid that gets deep into your pores to remove any excess oil and dead skin cells. This helps to stop spots from forming. It also contains Korean Red Pine extract which helps to balance skins microbiome (basically the good bacteria on your skin). An unbalanced microbiome can be another cause of acne / spots. Sounds amazing, right?

Texture wise, it's one of the most elegant gel creams I've tried. It's a thick gel, that melts into skin, instantly plumping and hydrating it. The gel has a silicone feel to it, that gives a protective layer to skin. I've never had any pilling / rolling issues from it though, which is great! I've tried a number of Murad products now that feel very silicone heavy, the type you'd expect to pill and roll when applying other products. None of them have ever caused me any issues like that at all! I'm guessing it's the quality or type of silicone used by Murad. Whatever it is, it's a huge hit with me as a love a silicone smooth texture but hate pilling!

The gel has a light, fresh scent to it which I love. I've found that it keeps my skin well hydrated throughout the day, which in turn helps with my oiliness. I like to use salicylic acid in my skincare routine most days, as it helps with my acne, so this is a perfect choice for me. I've not found it drying or had any sensitivity from using it daily. It's definitely worked well at keeping my spots down to a minimum.

This moisturiser has quickly become my go to AM cream, that I've really enjoyed using. I'd certainly buy it again and would highly recommend it if you're suffering with spots / acne / maskne.

Murad Clarifying Oil-Free Water Gel is available from Murad, Cult Beauty & Feel Unique for £38 or from Skin City for £36.

  1. I recently had a really bad outbreak of horrible cystic like spots all around my jaw line and down my neck! Having never suffered from spots in my 29 years , this was awful for me. I bought Dermalmd Acne Serum after reading the reviews, applied morning and night and seen a huge difference within 3 days! Spots have now cleared almost completely ! Tried to order another one this morning however it states unavailable. Seller , please can you let me know if this will be available in the near future? Thanks xx
