Like a lot of people, dark circles are the bane of my life. So any time an eye product promises to get rid of them, I’m sucked in! REN kindly sent me their newest release - the Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream to try. I’ve been using it over a month now, so thought it was time for a review.
But first, let’s talk a bit about what this eye cream contains and promises to do. REN state that 95% of the ingredients used in this cream are of natural origin. The cream contains bioactives that work to hydrate, brighten and plump the eye area and can help lighten dark circles in just 7 days! Bold claims, right? The main active ingredients are Glycogen which helps skin hold moisture and Elderberry Flower Extract which is an antioxidant. This helps fight free radicals which can be the cause of dark circles and puffiness.
Now on to my thoughts. As with most REN products, the packaging is made from recycled plastic, which I love. Have a look on REN’s website to see all the amazing work they do with sustainability. The product is in an airless pump container, which again I think is great as it keeps the product fresh.
The cream itself is a beautiful texture. It's fairly thick but it spreads and absorbs easily. It feels super silky and smoothing. I’ve found that one pump is more than enough for both eyes. It has a slight luminosity to it which helps to brighten the eye area instantly. It’s not shimmery or tinted, it’s more from the texture of the cream. It just gives a lovely glow. Although it’s rich, it’s not heavy. I’ve been using it morning and night and it works brilliantly in both routines. It works well under makeup as it helps prime and hydrate the eye area. I’ve not had any pilling / rolling issues with it either.
So, has it helped with my dark circles? Short answer, no. However the majority of dark circles can’t be improved by creams as they’re genetic or are from your under eye area becoming hollowed, which happens as we age (like mine). I’m really pale skinned too so my under eye area almost looks see through, which doesn’t help! But there are some days when my dark circles look worse - usually if I’ve had a bad nights sleep or had a few beers. This cream is great to perk my eye area up on those days. It hydrates brilliantly, which goes a long way to make tired eyes look better!
I’ve been really enjoying this eye cream and would definitely recommend it, especially if you have a dehydrated eye area. I think it goes without saying that this will definitely help improve some people’s dark circles, it just depends on what the cause of them is! Regardless of that, it’s a gorgeous cream that’s a pleasure to use.
