I'm sure you know by now that I'm a huge fan of Deviant Skincare (read my reviews of the Cleansing Concentrate and the Enzymatic Cleansing Oil here). But I'm not going to lie, when the Gentle Resurfacing Liquid (GRL for short) was first released, I was put off by the word gentle! My skin is pretty hardy when it comes to acids and they're an integral part of keeping my acne under control. From my experience, my skin usually prefers and needs stronger acids. So for me, this was initially an easy pass. That was until I started reading reviews of it. The more glowing reviews I saw, the more I realised I need to give it a try! And I'm so glad I did.
So what does the Gentle Resurfacing Liquid contain? It's an 8.2% blend of acids - AHA's (Glycolic, Lactic, Mandelic, Malic and Citric), BHA (Salicylic) and PHA (Gluconolactone). The acids are different molecular weights, meaning that they penetrate to difference layers of your skin. These are all designed to gently remove dead skin cells to reveal smooth skin. GRL also contains White Tea, Mushroom and Gotu Kola (aka Centella Asiatica) which all soothe and calm skin as well as antioxidants Green Tea and Liquorice Root to brighten. Sounds amazing, right? As with all Deviant Skincare products, so much thought has gone into choosing the ingredients and they're all of the highest quality.
On to how GRL performs. As it's name suggests, it's a liquid. I hesitate to call it a toner but it's designed to be used at your toner step - after cleansing and before serums. It's slightly thicker than water. I apply using a reusable cotton pad but you could apply using your hands if you prefer. I was surprised when I first used this as I got a decent acid tingle! Don't let the name gentle fool you, this is still a highly effective acid exfoliant. My skin was instantly smooth and soft. There's no harshness or redness though, which is where the gentleness comes in! It's incredibly soothing and hydrating.
I've mainly been using this in my AM routine as I use a Retinol serum at night. With regular use, it's done a good job at tackling my closed comedones. The main thing I've noticed is that it's faded my pigmentation really well. I'm very pale skinned with freckles, which always come out more in summer regardless of how much SPF I use. Since using GRL, I've definitely seen improvement in this area which is impressive as it's been over summer, when my pigmentation normally gets worse!
I've been really impressed with GRL and would certainly recommend it. I think it would be suitable for all skin types thanks to how gentle yet effective it is.
